London bidding war over Shaktar star

Cape Town - Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs are monitoring the situation surrounding Brazilian playmaker Douglas Costa with both sides being linked for a move for the talented midfielder.

Amid reports that as many as six international players are refusing to return to training at the club, the Daily Mail is reporting that both Arsenal and Tottenham will fight over Douglas Costa.

The London pair are battling to sign the Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian on loan with interest in the player also coming from Roma and AC Milan.

Shakhtar owner Rinat Akhmetov is determined to hold onto the club's star players by stating that: ‘There won’t be a clearance sale.’

Douglas Costa started his professional soccer career with Brazilian side Gremio before making the move to Ukraine for a fee of €6 million. Since 2010, the playmaker has won numerous trophies with Shakhtar, including a domestic treble in the 2010/11 season.
