Liverpool to splash the cash on Benteke

Cape Town - Liverpool will pay Aston Villa £32.5 million in order to seal the transfer of striker Christian Benteke, according to reports.

The Express report that Brendan Rodgers will push ahead with his plan to sign the Belgian forward.

Last week, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne with the Reds paying £12.5 million to land the England international right back. Rodgers transfer business is not yet concluded with the Liverpool manager ready to match the buy-out clause in Benteke's contract.

The 24-year-old striker has scored 49 goals in 101 appearances since joining Villa from Belgian side Genk for £7 million.

Liverpool have already made six summer additions as Rodgers looks to challenge for the Premier League next season. The new recruits are Roberto Firmino James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan and Clyne.

The same source also reports that Glen Johnson is in talks over a move to West Ham United following the conclusion of his contract at Anfield.
