Liverpool send Burnley down

2010-04-25 18:18

London - Burnley were relegated from the English Premier League following a 4-0 home loss to Liverpool at Turf Moor on Sunday, bringing to an end their one-season membership of the top flight elite.

Burnley denied Liverpool, still chasing a Champions League place, a goal until the second half when Reds skipper Steven Gerrard scored twice in quick succession before Maxi Rodriguez added a third.

Ryan Babel made it 4-0 with a 90th minute goal.

Bottom of the table Portsmouth, deducted nine points for entering administration, have already been relegated.

Meanwhile Hull are on the brink of going down to the Championship league.

Even if they were to win both of their remaining games and West Ham lose both of theirs to leave the clubs level on 34 points, the Hammers have a superior goal difference which could only be overturned in Hull's favour by some extraordinary results.

Imagine if we beat Chelsea - and hand Man U the EPL on a plate - MU then beat our league wins record ! Which means they could not have done this without OUR help ?? Inriguing isn't it ???????

Could somebody enlighten me; What gripe does the Turf Moor crowd have against Steven Gerrard? A couple of his touches were greeted with jeers and boo's... any idea anyone?? [On a related note, Good bye Burnley; This is what happens when you model your team structure against the likes of Wes Brom!]

@Thami Most away supporters have been jeering him this season. I think it has to do with him getting away with those assault charges earlier this year. The same way that most supporters jeer whenever John Terry touches the ball...

Thanks Wes.... much appreciated. I was begining to think they do not want him as Vice captain for the injury prone Ferdinand in the England national team.

Gee what a mess, we (Liverpool) need to beat Chelski but that will help blue nose and the manure secure the title, oh well we will still be the most successful team in the history of British Football.
