Liverpool may help United sign Hummels

Cape Town - Liverpool may just be playing their part in help arch rivals Manchester United sign Mats Hummels from Dortmund.

Louis van Gaal has been chasing Germany's World Cup winning defender Mats Hummels since he took over as coach of Manchester United and now it seems that Liverpool may play a key role in allowing their foes to sign their main target.

According to the Mirror, Hummels is edging closer to sealing a £20 million transfer to United.

Dortmund have already signed defender Matthias Ginter and are now in talks with Liverpool for the loan signing of Tiago Ilori.

Reports suggest that Dortmund have targeted Ilori as Hummels' replacement and by Brendan Rodgers' allowing Ilori to join Dortmund, he could be allowing rivals Manchester United to make a their most significant signing of the summer.

Despite Jurgen Klopp's insistence that Hummels will not be sold, reports suggest that Dortmund's interest in Ilori is a sign that Hummels could very well be on his way to Old Trafford.
