Liverpool look to sign Martinez

Cape Town - Liverpool are looking to sign Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Javi Martinez.

The Reds had a phenomenal 2013/2014 season, but were criticised at times for there defensive slip-ups, which is ultimately believed to have cost them the English Premier League title.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is now looking to strengthen his squad by adding a few solid, defensive players. Martinez plays the same role as skipper Steven Gerrard and with the Kop hero getting on in age, as well as the added pressure of the Champions League next season, it is expected that the two will alternate in the midfield allowing Gerrard to be rested when need be.

Since taking over at Bayern last summer, Pep Guardiola hasn't given the Spanish international much game time, and according to KickOff.com website, the midfielder may very well be on his way to Anfield.

The 25-year-old is likely to cost somewhere around £30-million but Liverpool will have a large budget next season given their huge slice of last season’s Premier League television revenue and an influx of Champions League money.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
