Liverpool inch closer to Benteke deal

Cape Town - Liverpool manager Brendan Rodger's is "on the verge" of agreeing a deal to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

talkSPORT report that a move for the Belgian striker is "imminent".

The British source relies on information provided by their Liverpool expert Graham Beecroft.

Speaking about a possible Benteke deal, Beecroft said: "My understanding is Christian Benteke, who has been on their radar for some time, is very close indeed to signing for Liverpool.

"I expect him to sign if not today then certainly in the not too distant future. Liverpool have done their work and have sealed a deal [with Aston Villa]."

Beecroft also reported that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Sweden U21 star Ludwig Augustinsson.

Augustinsson, a left back, was part of the squad that recently won the U21 European Championships.

On Wednesday, Liverpool completed their sixth summer signing, when Nathaniel Clyne joined the Anfield club from Southampton.

Clyne joined Manchester City midfielder James Milner, striker Danny Ings, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, defender Joe Gomez and Brazilian playmaker Roberto Firmino as new recruits.
