'Little Chief' back at Anfield?

Cape Town - Rumours are rife that Javier Mascherano, or more well known among Liverpool fans as 'Little Chief', could make a return to Anfield.

The Barcelona midfielder only has one year left on his contract and his agents are believed to be sounding out possible English interest.

According to the Metro, Mascherano could be available for around £9 million and a return to the Reds could be on the cards.

There are not many better than Mascherano at playing the defensive midfield role and he could be the player to help protect Liverpool’s vulnerable defence.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will want to improve on his side’s defensive performance next season, which ultimately cost them the Premier League title.

Liverpool conceded 50 goals this season, which was considerably more than league winners Manchester City (37), and a long way off Chelsea (27) who boasted the league's best defensive record.
