Leicester sign Schwarzer

Leicester - Leicester City have confirmed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer from Chelsea on a free transfer.

The 42-year-old Schwarzer has joined the Premier League's bottom club until June 2016, and will provide cover for Kasper Schmeichel, who has been out since the start of December with a broken foot.

Ben Hamer has been between the posts since Schmeichel's injury.

Schwarzer says "the opportunity to be more involved and play some football" convinced him to leave Chelsea, where he was third-choice behind Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech.

Schwarzer has made over 500 appearances in the Premier League and played 109 times for Australia before retiring from international football in 2013.
