Cape Town - Liverpool have admitted that
midfielder Adam Lallana has been playing with two broken ribs for weeks after
sustaining an injury during the first half of the 3-1 win over Leicester City
last week.
According to the Express, Lallana had to be given pain-killing injections and was jabbed before the game against Sunderland last Saturday when he lasted 67 minutes before being replaced by captain Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool have tried their best to keep the injury quiet to prevent the midfielder being targeted by opponents, but hope he can feature against Manchester United on Sunday when Brendan Rodgers' side will seek to recover from their European disappointment.
The England international's Anfield career has been largely disrupted by injury since arriving on Merseyside from Southampton for £24million during the summer.
A lateral knee injury sustained in pre-season sidelined him for six weeks and led to him missing the start of the season, but Rodgers said last week that he will still make a "big contribution" at the club.
