LVG to respond to FA charge

London -Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been given extra time to respond to a Football Association disrepute charge after his rant about referee Chris Foy.

Van Gaal was charged following his critical comments about Foy after United's 0-0 FA Cup fourth round draw with fourth tier minnows Cambridge United last month.

After the 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium, the Dutchman said: "You have seen the referee. It's always the same. Everywhere I have coached these games - and I have coached them also with other clubs - it's always the same."

Van Gaal, whose side won the Cup replay against Cambridge 3-0, was initially told to answer the charge by Monday evening, but will now have until 1800 GMT on Tuesday to give his response after the club sought an extension.

He has already said he will contest it, telling a press conference last week: "I am very disappointed. For nearly 30 years I have been a trainer, coach or manager and I have never been charged.

"Up to now I don't think I said something wrong. I said in our press conference the same phrases, because I know in advance that everything is in favour of the underdog. It is always like that."
