Both teams were tentative to start with City the stronger team as the half wore on. De Gea produced two stunning saves to deny Navas and Aguero.
The game changed after Smalling was sent off for a second yellow in the 38th minute. City started the second half all guns blazing and eventually the inevitable goal came in the 63rd minute, scored by Aguero.
All credit to Man United as they never gave up and gave City some scares in last twenty minutes, notably when Hart saved brilliantly from a Di Maria shot. Fellaini also had two great headed chances which he could not direct on target.

CITY TAKE THE LEAD. Toure plays in Clichy brilliantly, and he too, delivers a good cross to Aguero, who was never going to miss. Smashing home on the half volley from 10 yards.

Toure takes the resulting 25-yard free-kick but cannot get it up and down quick enough. Wasted opportunity.

For the time being United have weathered the storm. They have managed to check City and slow them down, their ball retention has also improved.
Martin Demichelis with a crucial interception. If he had missed Shaw's cross Van Persie would have had a brilliant shooting chance.
City are starting to turn the screw here.

Marcos Rojo hacks down Aguero. He should have received a yellow for that but Oliver thinks otherwise.
Jovetic is just getting spoken to by Michael Oliver. The ref has had to stop this game a few times already.
Van Persie rises to meet Angel Di Maria's cross but his header is off target.
Daley Blind nearly turns into trouble after receiving a short pass from De Gea. In the end he managed to poke the ball away from Stevan Jovetic.
Adnan Januzaj with a chance after a Robin van Persie knock down. Unfortunately for United he didn't catch it at all well and it goes wide of the mark.
David de Gea makes a good save at his near post to deny Sergio Aguero's rasping effort.
Luke Shaw gets left for dead by Jesus Navas but Spaniard cannot punish United. His cross was poor and went out for a goal kick.
Good start from United. They are not allowing City to settle and are stroking the ball around nicely.
