Khumalo to feature in FA Cup?

Johannesburg - Tottenham Hotspur could throw new-signing Bongani Khumalo straight into the firing line against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Bafana Bafana star's move to White Hart Lane was stalled by the poor weather conditions in the UK, which also saw his documents to obtain a final validated visa, being held up in the post.

With the freeze finally giving way in England and with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp lacking options in central defence, the 23-year-old is expected to play a part in the third-round clash in front of his new home fans.

However, this all depends on how well Khumalo trains with his team-mates and settles into the hustle and bustle of the English Premier League.

Gavin Hunt, his former coach at SuperSport United insists the defender has the discipline and determination to succeed under Redknapp and Bafana boss Pitso Mosimane echoed this sentiment.

His agent, Glynn Binkin told Football365.co.za last week: "They've had a lot of injuries and suspensions so it's going to be a great opportunity when he finally gets there. I hope he will rise to the occasion."

Khumalo could find himself settling in quickly if the rumour mill is to be believed. Spurs are intent on luring fellow South African Steven Pienaar to the Lane and are on the verge of securing a loan deal for David Beckham, whom the defender met ahead of and during the World Cup.

Whether or not Khumalo features against the Addicks this weekend remains to be seen, but 2011 looks promising for the man who helped SuperSport clinch three successive league titles.
