Jones to extend United stay

Cape Town - England international defender Phil Jones is expected to renew his contract at Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail report that Jones will put pen to paper on a new deal at Manchester United.

Jones has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form in recent seasons but has reportedly done enough to convince manager Louis van Gaal to keep him at the club. Jones is set to earn £80,000-a-week.

With the Red Devils in the market for at least one new defender, Jones has been linked with a summer exit.

However, the latest reports from England suggest Jones will follow England teammate Chris Smalling by committing his future to the club.

The 23-year-old defender joined the club from Blackburn in 2011 for £16 million.
