Gunners looking for 'free' defenders

Cape Town - Arsene Wenger is exploring the option bringing in an out of contract defender in order to provide cover for his defence.

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal are interested in bringing in an experienced defender to help contain their defender crisis.

With only Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny available to play in central defence, Wenger is reportedly looking at former West Brom defender Diego Lugano or Joseph Yobo to provide some much need cover at the back.

Both players have English Premiership experience and both are available on a free transfer.

Arsenal are allowed to sign either of the players despite the transfer window being closed as both players are out of contract.

Wenger did receive some good news on the injury front as Mathieu Debuchy's ankle injury is not as bad as first thought.

"No fracture but one broken ligament," said French defender on his Facebook account.

Wenger will wait until Friday to learn whether the player will require surgery.

"I have to wait until Friday in order to know if I must have surgery." said Debuchy.

Arsenal face high-flying Aston Villa on Saturday, September 20 at Villa Park.

Kick-off is set for 16:00.
