Giroud signs new contract

Cape Town - Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has signed a new contract with the Gunners, extending his stay at the Emirates until 2018.

According to the Mirror, the club are expected to announce the deal in the next few weeks after agreeing a two-year extension with the French striker.

The 27-year-old is still recovering from a broken tibia suffered at Everton last month and is only expected to return early next year.

Giroud has been impressive in his first two seasons at Arsenal and the new deal, said to be worth around £80,000-a-week, shows Arsene Wenger's intentions to keep him in his long-term plans.

Arsenal are preparing for their clash against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night, knowing they have to win to avoid a problematic path to the last 16.
