Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Olivier Giroud will sign a contract extension at the club in the coming days.
The France international has become a key figure for the Gunners since his arrival on a six-year deal from Montpellier in July 2012.
Giroud is currently on the mend after suffering a fractured fibia in the 2-2 draw at Everton on August 23, which will keep him on the sidelines until December.
However, Wenger has revealed that his compatriot has agreed to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium beyond 2018, with an official announcement to follow once he has signed on the dotted line.
"It (Giroud's contract) is done. It will be done. We will announce it when it is completely finished," the French tactician declared.
"We want stability and we want to keep the core of our team together because I am a great believer in that.
"We have a young bunch of players now and the core of our team is now basically young English talents, and I believe as well that Giroud is an important player here."
