Gerrard seeks future title chase

Cape Town - Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes the Reds need to bring in new faces to ensure they can challenge for the title again next season.

With Real Madrid rumoured to be considering a £70m summer bid for Luis Suarez, the veteran midfielder insists it is also crucial to keep their current stars, like Suarez, at the club.

According to the Daily Star, club owners Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back manager Brendan Rodgers with a £60m transfer kitty to bring world-class talent to Anfield.

And Gerrard believes that will build a platform for the Reds to be consistently challenging for major trophies.

"I have a huge belief that if this group of players stick together and we can make the right couple of additions to strengthen it again in the summer, the future is bright for this club. There is no doubt about that", said Gerrard.

Rodgers believes no matter what happens on the last weekend, Liverpool will be a better team for their experience this season having already secured Champions League football.

The Kop boss said: "To be successful, you have to be able to lose.

"If you look over the years, the great winners have been teams and individuals that have lost but have gone on and became a champion again.

"We've made great strides this season and there's still another game to go.

"If anyone had said to us in August about being top going into the last week of the season, we would have taken that.

"We've qualified for the Champions League, but we know there is an awful lot of work here that we want to achieve."
