Galatasaray - No thanks Moyes

Istanbul - David Moyes' hopes of a quick return to football appear to have been dashed after Galatasaray said he was not the number one choice for their vacant manager's post.

Moyes has held talks with the Turkish giants, who are looking for a new boss after parting company with Roberto Mancini after less than a year in charge.

The Scotsman, sacked after just months as Manchester United manager last season, flew into Istanbul and was holding talks with club officials in a luxury hotel, the club said.

"We are having an exchange of ideas with David Moyes," club president Unal Aysal told the Dogan news agency.

But he added that Galatasaray were still leaning towards "the German school" and were looking at coaches Ottmar Hitzfeld, Joachim Loew and Jurgen Klinsmann, all of whom are managing sides at the World Cup.

"He (Moyes) is not our priority choice," he added, explaining that Galatasaray want to develop a German system of football.

He added: "There is no hurry for this issue. We have at least 15 more days."

Galatasaray finished second in the Turkish league last season behind arch Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce.

However Galatasaray will take up Turkey's automatic group stage place in the Champions League as Fenerbahce are serving a ban from the competition over a 2011 match-fixing scandal.

Mancini also took Galatasaray to victory in the Turkish cup but parted company with the club reportedly in a dispute over the transfer budget.
