Fergie reveals Chelsea offer

Manchester - Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that billionaire Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, offered him a managerial position at the London outfit back in 2003.

The Russian tycoon wanted Ferguson to succeed the Italian Claudio Ranieri after the Red Devils clinched their eighth title under the Scottish mentor.

But “Fergie” was quick to turn down the offer.

“They used an agent to approach me when Abramovich first took over the club and I said: ‘No chance’,” Ferguson told American television network PBS.

The Scot also hinted that should the Russian offer him another chance to take over the Blues now, he would still turn down the offer since he is now focusing on his new role on the Manchester United board.

“Everyone dreams we have a winner ... but you know, as I said, I made my mind up. I’m looking forward to my new career and my new challenges,” he added.

Ferguson retired as United mentor in May this year after being at the helm since November 1986.

His compatriot, David Moyes, who was in charge of Everton since 2002, is now in the hot seat at Old Trafford.
