Fergie: I won't sell Berbatov

2010-05-21 13:35

England - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says he will not sell Dimitar Berbatov despite the striker's limited impact at the club.

Berbatov scored only 12 Premier League goals last season as Chelsea broke United's three-year hold on the Premier League title.

British newspapers had linked Berbatov with a transfer to Bayern Munich but Ferguson says he will "definitely not" be leaving during the offseason.

Ferguson says "Dimitar is a good player and he will be with us next year."

The 29-year-old Berbatov is Bulgaria's all-time leading scorer with 48 goals in 77 appearances but retired from international football earlier this month.

Fergie is doing the right thing by not letting berbatov go he is a good player and can score crucial goals when no body was expecting and the teams wins, he settle in well at orld traford and continued to score goals so why sell him.

thats why manu will not win a champions league any time point having an expensive striker that is not going to get you more than 15 goals a season, never mind that fact that he just does not suit the manchester style of playing.... he should go to tottenham or aston villa maybe man city those clubs suit his style of play better....

How romantic! What a football genius!

I agree. Berbatov might not have scored alot of goals but he has a good sense of the game and on numerous occasions assisted in a goal.

12 goals is still a decent contribution, hold onto him

He has not formed a partnership with Rooney, & he would do better as the main target man in a team. He must also be lacking confidence after falling down the order, SAF would rather play Rooney injured than start him. He has always seemed emotional and would perhaps do better in a slower league like Serie A. If Utd can get a good price they should sell, but they'll never get the 30 million they paid for him.

12 goals in a season is a poor return for an out and out striker in the English premiership, might be acceptable in the SA PSL, but over there he is a dismal failure and adds no value to United. Should be the first player they get rid off.

Berbatov needs to have more muscle and verve. He plays useful "twinkle-toe" stuff but never seems to offer the fighting spirit so necessary in top flight football these days. He (Berbatov) should apply for a spot in "Strictly Come Dancing" he might make the semi's!

Agree. He has a lot more to offer than just scoring goals. His goal assists are important too. Just wish he'd chase the ball more, but his style is not like that. Keep him.

A complete waste of money @ 31 million pounds...all Manure fans know it but won't admit that he is a dud !!

  • denzil - 2010-05-22 14:05

Fergie is a ledgend he knows what he going to with him, wotchs next year he will improve at united

Berbtov might have skill, but he can't keep up with the pace of the English game. Time and time again he has been left behind in attack, when a midfielder can come from behind him to pass him in an attack you know there is a problem. Berbatov's shot accuracy last season was 37%, most of which he missed at point blank range might I add..terrible. Fergie needs to wake up, Berbatov is going to turn into another Saha...inconsistent, and it's gonna take another 6 years for Fergie to realise it, then he is gonna be worth nothing.

Because he knows if he sells him he wont get the money, and that the money will be used to service debt, the same as what happened with Renaldo

  • REALITY - 2010-05-24 14:43

Yes, Fergie knows everything...this old chop doesn't want to admit that Berbatov was a failure...that is the only reason why he still wants to keep him....PRIDE, It is all about PRIDE
