EPL
Cape Town - Each round of the 2014/15 English Premiership season, a panel of Sport24 staff and occasional guest tipsters have a crack at predicting the results - do the exercise yourself, if you like, and see how you compare afterwards.

Compiled by Rob Houwing (Newcastle-partial), the others are Garrin Lambley (Everton), Herman Mostert (Chelsea), Earl Haupt (Liverpool) and a pesky new trio of Manchester United devotees in Tashreeq Vardien, Wade Pretorius and Maano Nekhavhambe.

Three points are awarded for an entirely correct scoreline, and one for right result.

THE PRIME ATTRACTION

CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL
Sunday, 17:00

Usually at this highly advanced stage of the season, you’d expect Blues v Reds at Stamford Bridge to be an important humdinger. But Chelsea have already consummately nailed down the title, so they may be sporting a champagne hangover. Or will they? I reckon Jose Mourinho will insist on a strong finish to the season, and they may even wish to crank up the style a bit as a middle finger to their “boring” critics. The men from Anfield still have a slim chance of ending in the key top four and cracking the Champions League, so they will give it a full go in London. But I see the hosts cruising to a comfortable win ... even if we offer you all results here.

Rob: Chelsea 2 Liverpool 0
Garrin: 1-1
Herman: 2-1
Earl: 0-1
Wade: 2-1
Tashreeq: 1-1
Maano: 0-0
Last season: 2-1

THE GRUDGE MATCH

HULL v BURNLEY
Saturday, 16:00

This has become a do-or-die fixture for Burnley. Bottom of the table, they will be the first team confirmed for relegation if they fail to land all three points at Hull. But they will get no special gifts from big Steve Bruce’s home side: Hull are still very much involved in the survival scrap themselves as they are one precarious slot off the drop zone. Both sides enter the high-stakes game on the back of losses last time out – Burnley at West Ham and Hull at home to Arsenal on Monday night. An extra motivator for the home outfit, however, is the chance to avenge to 1-0 loss in the away meeting earlier in the season. And if they do win, they are very likely safe on 37 points. It may not be pretty ...

Rob: Hull 1 Burnley 0
Garrin: 2-1
Herman: 1-0
Earl: 2-1
Wade: 2-0
Tashreeq: 3-2
Maano: 1-0
Last season: Not applicable

THE DESPERATE DUEL

NEWCASTLE v WEST BROM
Saturday, 16:00

I take no pride, of course, in installing the Toon in this slot again. Eight losses on the bounce, and the unthinkable (at least a few weeks ago) has become grim reality: they’re almost among the dead men. There’s sort of a reckless desperation in me, then, as I cavalierly predict they’ll land a way overdue victory against the Baggies. Funny ... I have some backers in that belief, too. If any scientific ammunition can be used, it is maybe that Newcastle have a good recent record against these foes – they won the away game 2-0 and also triumphed 2-1 in the north-east in 2013/14. Mind you, West Brom enter the clash off a heartening win at Old Trafford. So am I completely bonkers? I guess we’ll see.

Rob: Newcastle 1 West Brom 0
Garrin: 1-1
Herman: 1-1
Earl: 0-0
Wade: 3-2
Tashreeq: 1-1
Maano: 1-0
Last season: 2-1
