Cape Town - Each round of the 2014/15 English Premiership season, a panel of Sport24 staff and occasional guest tipsters have a crack at predicting the results – do the exercise yourself, if you like, and see how you compare afterwards.

Compiled by Rob Houwing (Newcastle-partial), the others are Garrin Lambley (Everton), Herman Mostert (Chelsea), Earl Haupt (Liverpool) and a pesky new trio of Manchester United devotees in Tashreeq Vardien, Wade Pretorius and Maano Nekhavhambe.

Three points are awarded for an entirely correct scoreline, and one for right result.

THE PRIME ATTRACTION

LIVERPOOL v MANCHESTER CITY

Sunday, 14:00

This particular fixture remains a big one on paper, even if Liverpool have lost so much ground since their compelling title challenge last season. The stakes stay high here, as City desperately try to make up further ground on leaders Chelsea – they’d close to within two points for a couple of days if they win at Anfield – and the home side also have to target victory for Champions League purposes. But both combatants come off deflating defeats in different Euro competitions in midweek, so may just be a bit footsore and not in best mental space either. Maybe that’s why six of our seven panellists predict a draw? I have bravely bucked the trend by suggesting City will steal it...

Rob: Liverpool 0 Manchester City 1
Garrin: 1-1
Herman: 1-1
Earl: 2-2
Wade: 2-2
Tashreeq: 1-1
Maano: 1-1
Last season: 3-2

THE GRUDGE MATCH

WEST HAM v CHELSEA

Wednesday, 21:45

The Blues don’t see service over the weekend, so should be pretty sharp when they return to action for this London derby on Wednesday. Several of us would probably have backed the front-runners anyway to see off the faltering Hammers – no wins from their last four league games – but that is just an extra reason to suspect it will occur. Tashreeq is the only forecaster to go against the grain, backing a hard-fought stalemate. Chelsea romped home 3-0 in the corresponding clash last season, and have already won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the current campaign.

Rob: West Ham 0 Chelsea 2
Garrin: 1-2
Herman: 1-2
Earl: 0-1
Wade: 1-2
Tashreeq: 1-1
Maano: 0-1
Last season: 0-3

THE DESPERATE DUEL

ASTON VILLA v WEST BROM

Tuesday, 21:45

Villa are one of those Premiership ever-presents, even when they have leanish seasons. But there’s a difference this time: it’s looking extra lean! The Birmingham outfit have slumped to dangerous second-last on the table and were mortified to lose at the death at home to Stoke last time out. So maybe this isn’t the best time for them to have to play a feisty Midlands derby against the Baggies. Mind you, these teams meet again at an advanced stage of the FA Cup on Saturday! Our tipsters give you all results for this one, and I’ve taken sensible middle ground at 1-1... yes, even though last season saw a seven-goal thriller at Villa Park.

Rob: Aston Villa 1 West Brom 1
Garrin: 1-1
Herman: 2-1
Earl: 0-1
Wade: 2-1
Tashreeq: 1-0
Maano: 2-1
