Cape Town – Each round of the 2014/15 English Premiership season, a panel of Sport24 staff and occasional guest tipsters have a crack at predicting the results – do the exercise yourself, if you like, and see how you compare afterwards.

Compiled by Rob Houwing (Newcastle-partial), the others are Garrin Lambley (Everton), Herman Mostert (Chelsea), Earl Haupt (Liverpool) and a pesky new trio of Manchester United devotees in Tashreeq Vardien, Wade Pretorius and Maano Nekhavhambe.

Three points are awarded for an entirely correct scoreline, and one for right result.

THE PRIME ATTRACTION

SOUTHAMPTON v LIVERPOOL
Sunday, 18:15

With then-ambitious Liverpool snapping up a handful of Saints stars to supposedly boost their crack at the title after being runners-up last season, you’d have been forgiven for suspecting ‘Pool would be right in the picture for the silverware again, and the south coast side possibly sink virtually without trace in 2014/15. Instead this clash comes with Southampton riding a handsome fourth – in the Champions League zone – and their visitors four behind them and in so-so seventh. It is a vital game, therefore, for the Scousers to try to make up ground with an away win. If they can make it happen, it would be a repeat of last season, when they eased to a 3-0 outcome in their favour. Nobody thinks it will be so comfortable this time around... if, in fact, they even have the Reds winning at all. I don’t!

Rob: Southampton 1 Liverpool 0
Garrin: 1-1
Herman: 1-1
Earl: 1-2
Wade: 1-1
Tashreeq: 0-1
Maano: 1-0
Last season: 0-3

THE GRUDGE MATCH

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v WEST HAM UNITED
Sunday, 14:00

Tough task choosing the game for this category, as there’s another potentially attractive London derby as Palace host the Gunners. In the end I opted for this one, between two outfits with illustrious histories and both among the top eight at this pretty advanced stage of the season. The Hammers, though, are beginning to lose a bit of steam of late and were also unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup 4-0 last weekend by West Brom. This seems a perfect chance to regain some mojo, though as it’s at White Hart Lane sentiment leans quite strongly toward a narrow Spurs victory.

Rob: Tottenham 2 West Ham 1
Garrin: 2-1
Herman: 2-1
Earl: 2-1
Wade: 3-1
Tashreeq: 0-0
Maano: 1-1
Last season: 0-3

THE DESPERATE DUEL

EVERTON v LEICESTER
Sunday, 16:05

The situation is getting parlous now for the Foxes, who go to Goodison Park four points adrift of anyone else at the bottom  the table, so not even an upset win can improve their position at this point. They’ve lost four times in succession in the league, so confident won’t be too high, either. That said, this season is not going down as a glorious one in the Toffees’ annals ... their fans expect a bit better than current berth of 12th. Two-nil to Everton is a hugely popular suggestion from our panel, though Herman and Earl are just a tad more cautious. It was 2-2 in the first-round encounter earlier this season.

Rob: Everton 2 Leicester 0

Garrin: 2-0
Herman: 1-0
Earl: 1-0
Wade: 2-0
Tashreeq: 2-0
Maano: 2-0
Last season: Not applicable
