Everton keep Burnley winless

Burnley - Samuel Eto'o scored twice as Everton won 3-1 away to Burnley on Sunday to leave the promoted side still searching for their first Premier League win this season.

Victory saw Roberto Martinez's power into the top half of the table but the result left Burnley mired firmly in the relegation zone.

Eto'o gave Everton a fourth-minute lead at Turf Moor before Burnley striker Danny Ings, seizing on a mistake by Romelu Lukaku, equalised in the 20th minute. But nine minutes after his error, Lukaku restored Everton's lead before veteran Cameroon striker Eto'o put the result beyond doubt in the 86th minute.

Far from looking tired after their Europa League draw away to Lille in midweek, Everton were quickly out of the blocks against their Lancashire rivals.

Leon Osman found Leighton Baines on the left and the full-back's cross was headed powerfully by Eto'o past Clarets goalkeeper Tom Heaton and went in off the crossbar.

Everton were in complete control, dominating possession, until Lukaku inexplicably gave the ball away to Burnley's Lukas Jutkiewicz, whose precise through ball to Ings allowed the forward to run through on goal.

Ings then showed plenty of composure and class to round Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard before slotting the ball into an unguarded net.

An encouraged Burnley pressed forward and Scott Arfield's volley went just past Howard's post.

But it was not long before Lukaku atoned for his earlier error, the Belgium striker receiving the ball from Steven Naismith and then turning Burnley's Jason Shackell. His first shot was blocked but Lukaku managed to scuff his second into the bottom corner.

Everton might even have been 3-1 up before the break, Heaton flapping at a Naismith header before gathering the ball after it came back off the bar.

Burnley pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half but rarely threatened Howard's goal and the visitors sealed victory four minutes from time when Eto'o turned from 25 yards out and advanced before curling a superb shot into the corner.

Eto'o nearly had a hat-trick but, after seizing on a poor back pass and rounding Heaton, his shot hit the inside of the far post and rolled along the goal-line.
