Cape Town - Roy Hodgson personally called Louis van Gaal to draw a line under the Luke Shaw issue that infuriated both managers.
The Telegraph report that England boss Roy Hodgson and Red Devils' coach Louis van Gaal have both apologised following a fall-out regarding Luke Shaw,
Hodgson's comments regarding Shaw's fitness during the World Cup in Brazil irked the Dutch manager.
Shaw was recently demoted from the England senior team to the England Under-21s.
The Under 21-s' coach Gareth Southgate has confirmed that the issue has now been resolved between the pair.
“Roy had that conversation and Louis was very positive about Luke playing for the under-21s,” he said.
“If we have five or six at the younger ages then I will deal with the academy manager or first-team manager but in this instance it was Roy because he’s dealing with Louis on [Wayne] Rooney and hopefully others that will be involved.
"I also know from speaking to Luke that he was really positive about him coming and playing first and foremost, playing matches.” said Southgate.
Shaw is determined to play for the Under-21s should Southgate's side qualify.
“It’s brilliant for him to have the humility to recognise that and be prepared to do it,” said Southgate.
“There may be more of that view than people think but we’ve got to get across the line on Tuesday.”
