Marseille - Hoping to revive his injury-hit career, former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby joined Marseille on a free transfer on Wednesday.
After reaching "an agreement in principle" with Diaby, Marseille confirmed his arrival but did not give any details on the deal.
Diaby, who was released by Arsenal this summer, opted to return to France after rejecting an offer from West Bromwich Albion.
He spent 10 years in north London, scoring 19 goals, but has hardly played over the past two seasons because of injuries.
"We can call this a new start in my career," Diaby said. "I haven't played in two years, and featured in very few matches over the past four years, but I'm here to get back to my best level. I totally understand (people's) skepticism."
The 29-year-old Diaby, who also played with Auxerre before going to the English Premier League, has 16 caps with France.
He will reunite with former Arsenal teammate and friend Lassana Diarra, who joined Marseille last week.
