Di Maria to Don the famous number...

England - Manchester United has revealed which number Angel Di Maria will wear on the back of his shirt.

After securing his move to Old Trafford for a record British fee of £59.7m The Red Devils will reveal Di Maria to the media with the famous number 7 jersey.

Di Maria follows a number of big names to Don the number. George Best, arguably one of the best midfielders to ever wear the United jersey made over 350 appearances for the club and netted 137 goals in the famous 7 shirt.

Next was the controversial and mercurial Eric Cantona. The French was brought in from Leeds United and cemented his place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side immediately. The forward, who still to this very day is the only player to pull off the ‘popped collar’ look in a United jumper in which he scored 64 times for the Red Devils.

Cantona was followed by David Beckham – the dead ball specialist and what more is there to say about this guy? Where ever you wanted the ball you’d get it.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 84 times under Ferguson in 196 appearances. To prove that he deserved the jersey Real Madrid bought him for £80m and he has scored 178 times for Los Blancos in 166 appearances.

Now it is up to Di Maria to further his credentials in the famous number 7 jersey and to write his name alongside the best to ever wear it or he will be remembered amongst the worst to wear to claim the number in the likes of Micheal Owen and Antonio Valencia who failed to make any impression in the famous 7.
