Di Maria injury not serious

Cape Town - Argentina coach Gerardo Martino has played down the severity of Angel di Maria's injury, claiming the midfielder suffered 'nothing serious'.

The Manchester United winger was taken to hospital for X-rays on Tuesday evening after being caught on the foot by Nani during the 1-0 friendly international defeat to Portugal at Old Trafford.

Initial fears suggested the Red Devils' record £59.7m signing may have fractured a bone, but Martino insists the knock is not nearly that bad.

"We don't think it is anything serious. It was quite a tough blow that he took," Martino is quoted as saying by Football411.

"It was a tough knock. It cut the skin a little bit. But we have had a look at it and we are evaluating the situation.

"We are having a look at some X-rays, some images that have been taken but in spite of that we don't think it is too serious."

Di Maria himself went on to play down fears over the injury ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Arsenal, posting on his official Twitter account: “It was just a blow. I hope it does not swell anymore so I can play at the weekend.”
