Cape Town - Newcastle midfielder Siem de Jong admits he does not know when
he'll return to fitness as he continues his recovery from a thigh
injury.
The 25-year-old made two appearances for the Magpies before sustaining a thigh injury in training and the initial prognosis was that the Netherlands international would be out until Christmas.
However, having spent the past month on the treatment table, De Jong says he is not sure when he'll make a much-anticipated return to action.
"It is difficult for me to say when I will be fit again," De Jong told Ajax's official website.
"The fact I have been made vice-captain makes it even more annoying.
"It's a bothersome injury. I want to help the team and I'm unable to do so."
Newcastle currently occupy one of the relegation places in the Premier League standings, having picked up just four points from a possible 21.
They return to action on Saturday when newly-promoted Leicester make the trip to St James' Park.
