Cape Town - Ashley Cole has reportedly been told he is not part of Roma's plans and is lining up for a return to England.
Cole made the move to Roma on a two-year deal after Chelsea electing not to offer the 33-year-old defender a new deal.
The Daily Express now report that the England left back is being frozen out of the Serie A's first team.
The English newspaper relies on reports surfacing in Italy which suggest Roma coach, Rudi Garcia, does not believe Cole can keep up with his high-intensity methods, and wants to pursue a new left back in January.
Manchester United are frontrunners to sign Cole should he indeed become available as they look to provide Luke Shaw with cover and competition.
Cole made 338 appearances for Chelsea and played 107 for the England national team.
