Chamakh lifts Palace off bottom

London - Crystal Palace gave themselves renewed hope of avoiding relegation from the Premier League as Tony Pulis's first home match in charge ended in a 1-0 win at home to London rivals West Ham on Tuesday.

Marouane Chamakh scored the only goal of the game -- the Moroccan's first since August 24 -- when he headed in Barry Bannan's curling cross in the 42nd minute.

Victory took Palace off the bottom of the table and left them just three points adrift of safety and West Ham, one of several clubs on 13 points who could yet get drawn into a relegation battle.
