Cape Town - A 3-1 win against Swansea at Upton Park has sent West Ham up to third place, at least until Monday night’s clash between Southampton and Manchester United.
A double from Andy Carroll followed Wilfried Bony’s opener for the visitors before Diafra Sakho finished the Welsh side off.
"I’ve played a couple of games but until you score you don’t feel like you’re definitely back," Carroll said to Sky Sports, having found the net for the first time since March. "Now I’ve got two, it means a great deal."
West Ham’s current position is still up for grabs, though, as fourth-placed Southampton host fifth-placed Manchester United on Monday night.
The Saints are on 26 points, just one below West Ham and one above Louis van Gaal’s men, meaning that a win for either team will see them leapfrog the Hammers.
