According to the Journal, Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wanted an answer this week but will wait patiently on Borini's decision.
After the £10 million arrival of midfielder Jack Rodwell, the Black Cats were eager to conclude a deal for the Liverpool forward.
The two clubs have agreed a fee of £14 million for the Italian but the player is still mulling over a decision to make the move.
Borini is reluctant to leave the Anfield club and has expressed his wishes to fight for a first team place but appears that Brendan Rodgers does not consider the player part of his first team plans ahead of the 2014/15 EPL season.
Borini, who spent last season on loan with Sunderland, scored 7 goals in 32 appearances last term.
