Berbatov seals win for United

2010-09-19 16:39

Manchester - Dimitar Berbatov completed a brilliant hat-trick six minutes from time to give Manchester United a 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday after a Steven Gerrard double had seemed set to earn the visitors a draw.

United were dominant for the first hour as Berbatov headed them ahead after 42 minutes and, after Nani had rattled a post, hooked in an excellent overhead second on the hour.

Liverpool had offered nothing in attack but rash challenges by United defenders allowed Gerrard to pull one goal back with a penalty after 64 minutes then equalise with a free kick through a ragged wall after 70.

United, who conceded twice in stoppage time last weekend to draw 3-3 at Everton having also given up a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Fulham, this time found a winner when Berbatov rose powerfully to head home his seventh goal in six games.

The win takes United to within one point of leaders Chelsea, who are at home to Blackpool later on Sunday.

Can't believe the worst buy in PL history scored 3 against my Liverpool, we really must have problems in defense.

  • sagren - 2010-09-20 08:21

Welcome to the premierleague MF' under performing low down, snake eyed RAT Ba$t#@ds.Get rid of Gerrard and bring some youth into your team if you want to make it in the top flight.

  • Shaheen - 2010-09-20 08:44

Liverpool were hardly in it. Took their set-piece chances to draw level, coming away with a point would hardly have been a fair result. United deserved the win and Berbatov is class, always knew he'd pull through - off to a good start this season. Again it was proved since the World Cup Glen Johnson cannot defend. He let an old man run rings around him. Oh, by the way... what was Gerrard thinking of when he went and kissed the camera... again. Does he not know that'll be the only thing he'll be kissing on the pitch? Hehe...

  • Harold @ Bob - 2010-09-20 09:17

"the worst buy in PL history"? It is a toss up between Lucas Leiva & Aqualani. Look at the table. Your "Pool lie 5th from bottom - you have problems all round and must also be delusional if you can't believe yesterdays' result.

  • TRUE Red - 2010-09-20 09:17

Well done to the Manc's & Berba. Boytjie was on fire yesterday & finally looking like the player he was at Spurs - think the manc's should stop calling him berbaflop now & after his 2nd goal, berbafluke, LOL. Brilliant tho' & unstoppable. Think we were disappointing in the 1st half, showing Utd too much respect, but were the better team in the 2nd half, but over 90 minutes, we can't complain as Utd deserved the win IMHO. Was disappointed on why we sat back after the equaliser instead of going for the win - that allowed Utd back into the game i reckon. IF we can play like how we did the majority of the 2nd half, we will start rapidly climbing the table. First 5 games have been tough fixtures, with only 1 "easy" game. After the next 5, i expect up to be challenging for a place back in the Big 4. Poulsen, who was looking like Lucas part. 2 up to yesterday, and the first 20 min as well, really impressed after that. Rual is quality ! Konchesky looking decent as well & Skrtel on good form. Pity Cole was played in Kuyt's position, but still, alot of positives to take out of it IMHO, despite the result

  • AL @ sagren - 2010-09-20 09:31

HAHAHAHA ----- unfortunately for them, Gerrard is their best player. Torres was absolutely nowhere. This is the Berbatov that was seen at Tottenham. I personally think Fletcher does more harm than good.

  • Up The Liverpool - 2010-09-20 10:39

Bad first half performance from Liverpool but a lot better second half and a lot of positives to take from the game. Once again Howard Webb bad refereeing a professional foul should have been red carded and Man U should have been down to 10 but once again that was over looked any how Liverpool will get better no doubt about that, How does that saying go again You'll never walk alone, yes I think thats it Gerrard is awesome and give Torres some time as well as cole and a few other guys we will be a force to reckon with once again.

  • Up The Pool - 2010-09-20 10:45

Oh wtf Nani get off the floor and play soccer the dude lays and cries more then he plays it's cry baby players like Nani that spoils the game of Football.I honestly hoped that someone would really kick him yesterday in all fairness he should be an actor and leave the football pitch

  • Wes - 2010-09-20 10:53

@ True Red - What do you have to say now?? I told you we would struggle even more if Rafa should leave. Roy Hodgson is not good enough for our club and never will be. He is out of his depth. You claimed Rafa was the problem and yet a week after leaving us he was snapped up by the reigning European Champions!! I told you so just doesn't quite do it hey!!

  • goose@bob - 2010-09-20 10:56

defence problem? how about club problem S*** staduim, players, manager all liverpool has left is their history and thas soon to be forgotten i can easily say liverpool will never win a league title whilst im alive and im 21 ha ha ha ha your club is a joke look like all u muppets are walking alone HA HA HA

  • Up The Liverpool - 2010-09-20 11:18

@goose you young and ignorant so we will forgive you but don't judge remeber we under new management so it will take some time but it will get better trust me and maybe in a seson or two we will see what happens as for Wes you need a reality check its because of Rapha we in this position so please don't talk nonsense he was the problem and he had to leave so lets give Roy a chance and lets see what happens

  • LOL - 2010-09-20 11:25

@Up the pool: What about your Torres batty boy that fell to ground for every tackle? He is by far the worst of all! Even worse than Drogba when it comes to play acting! Sour grapes, face it! Your team is k@k and they will be lucky to be in Europa next season!

  • AJ - 2010-09-20 11:29

@True Red: What game were you watching? "Liverpool the better team in the 2nd half" Dude, Utd were the better team for 94min! I know you liverfool supporters are a confident bunch but to say that Pool were the better team in the 2nd half takes the confidence levels to new heights!

  • Shankly's Kin - 2010-09-20 11:33

We stunk. As simple as that. We were lucky to be back in it. We could have been 5-0 down by half time. Our team on paper looked good, but still needs time to gel. Would have left Maxi out, with Babel on the right (He could have maybe given us real width), also would have left Skrtel out and started Agger there. And what were they thinking letting our worst defender (Torres) man mark United's best attacker? Ludicrous!! Mereiles looks like a good buy. He played decent, showed flashes of brilliance. Hopefully we can turn things around now. The tough opening fixtures are done, so it should be on the up from here, "SHOULD" being the keyword. I don't really like making predictions for my team lately. Fingers crossed LFC lads. YNWA.

  • Shankly's Kin - 2010-09-20 11:39

Oh, and kudos to United. The best team won on the day. Glad to see Berba is proving that he is worth his price tag. Not so glad that he proved it against us. Good on you guys. 'Til we meet again.

  • Man U - 2010-09-20 11:39

@Shankly's kin: Hope the result did not leave you in too much tears mate! We spoke about this day about 2-3 weeks back and i am proud to post this: Glory Glory Man United, Glory Glory Man United!

  • Bob - 2010-09-20 11:45

Goose, gee what a fitting name your mother gave you, you say"I can easily say" mate with your IQ you can't say anything easily, grow up before you attempt to say anything in public again, 21, I've heard more sense from a 3 year old.

  • Todd@both up the pools - 2010-09-20 11:58

Talk about torres the little fairy bit##, trying to get oshea sent off. Look at highltights please then speak...otherwise your pathetic club is going to enjoy some nice championship football next season...LOL, enjoy. P.S. I'm not a pu@#y, I'll walk alone...

  • Up The Pool - 2010-09-20 12:53

@Todd maybe you should walk with that prosi of Rooneys your defenders fear Torres and both times he was on the ground we got a penalty and a free kick so you better watch the highlights as for Nani i think out of the 150 times he was on the floor he got one free kick so please don't compare a star to a rubbish cry baby.Lets just wait until the end of the season its still soon only 5 games

  • TRUE Red - 2010-09-20 12:54

Wes, I was one of Rafa's BIGGEST supporter's on this site, WTF ?! He made some mistakes but so does EVERY manager. His record in terms of wins speaks for itself ... AJ, except for Berba's brilliance / luck, what did Reina have to do ? Fair enough, both teams hardly at their peak, but up to the equaliser, we were better in the 2nd half - however, not good enough as you have to be the better team over 90+ min's, as Utd were yesterday, and not just a few. Shankly's Kin - Maxi was PATHETIC - also wondered why he got the nod ahead of Babel, and then still stayed on for an hour !

  • LOL - 2010-09-20 13:37

@Up the pool: Retard! Nani is 100 times better than Torres! By the way, remember how Torres got that Chilean guy sent off in the World Cup? That was probably his best contribution to the Spanish team throughout the entire WC! Pathetic fool trying to get players sent off! Even Roy Boy admits that it was not a red card! Torres is a f@g and so are you!

  • Jason - 2010-09-20 13:49

I loved the commentators comment on Maxi when he was substiuted. "What is Maxi's role in the Liverpool team, he is not an out and out winger nor is he a defensive midfielder nor can he attack" It was something like that!

  • Jason - 2010-09-20 13:52

  • Todd@ Up the Pool - 2010-09-20 14:11

Defenders fear Torres??? HAHAHAHAH!!! what a load of cr@p. your fancy pants, batty boy, pole loving hero cant do squat... I admit he is a good player, but you got nobody but has beens and rubbish delivering to him... Look @ difference in Torres when he plays for Spain and Liverpool...

  • Up The Pool - 2010-09-20 16:26

@LOL & Todd Just admit you guys wish Torres was playing for your Team that's why you guys are jealous at his quality the season is just begining@LOL Nani is 100 times better in falling then Torres that I agree upon and anyway remember a profesional foul is a red card ask your boyfriend okay especially like the one that O Shea committed yesterday and stop calling Rooney a retard he can't help the way he looks

  • Shankly's Kin - 2010-09-20 16:27

@TrueRed: While I was watching the game, all I could think about was how I miss the man (Benitez), well at least up until we scored the penalty (LMAO). Everyone can say what they want about him, but the man payed attention to detail. A meticulous planner. I shudder to think where he could have taken us had the club been stable. You're right. His record speaks for itself. Him leaving us was just a combination of many things which lead to him "loosing" the dressing room. That's what got us into this mess. My biggest gripe toward Rafa is the Barry-Alonso saga. Other than that, I've got nothing against the man. Top class manager. Why else were Madrid, Juve and Inter chasing him all those seasons? In my eyes, he should still be in charge, Liverpool through and through. It's thanks to him that we were respected again, and a consistent top 4 team. If only he didn't try to offload Alonso. And for Barry to top it off. Barry doesn't even come close. Let's hope it all comes together soon, or else that 4th spot will be nothing but a pipe dream. It's going to be a long season buddy. YNWA.

  • Ryan - 2010-09-20 16:59

GGMU ! Berbatov , finally showing the class and form that put him on United's radar back when he played for Leverkusen . Fletcher is a midfield enforcer - every team needs one - Pool had Mascherano , now he's gone need I say more ? I concede that we are a little bit soft in defence and we gave away two goals but I am certain SAF is addressing the problem . Would like to see Bebe in action now that Valencia is out for a while .. United are notoriously slow starters but could this be the spark that ignites our season ? Gonna be a tough call to try and overhaul Chelski though ..

  • LOL - 2010-09-21 07:04

@Up the pool: Whatever you say, at the end of the day, your team is k@k and they lost this weekend! Nani falls to ground as easy as Torres no matter what you say! And by the way YOU moron, i was refering to you as a Retard! Going by your last post, you have confirmed what a Retard you really are!

  • Aaron - 2010-09-21 13:25

At the end of the day, ManUtd won the game.

  • the best - 2010-09-21 13:55

the best team in the PL won, draws are over now, we are making history this season to become the only team in british history to have won the most leagues, well done MU

  • TRUE Red - 2010-09-22 11:51

LOL, some of the comments from the Manc's are just ridiculous ! Yes, you won the game, well done. But Nani better than TORRES ?! ROTFLMAO ! An on-form, fit Torres is better than Nani, Berba & Shrek put TOGETHER ! For the Nani fans, watch this :

  • @True Red - 2010-09-23 07:21

Laugh Out Load at this one you chop! Liverpool got dumped out by Northampton! Your team cr@p team have sunk to even new lows since this weekend! No premier league, no league cup. Matter off time before you scouser idiots get smacked in the F.A Cup and Europa!

  • TRUE Red - 2010-09-23 09:10

Don't worry dude, i AM laughing, WHY ? 1. It's the friggin' Carling Cup 2. We played our RESERVES & went to penalties - obviously the lighties are not yet ready to handle that kind of pressure. Chelsea, City & Everton are out as well, so Utd have an easy route to the plastic trophy again - by the way, sure i saw the likes of Owen, Ferdinand, Brown, Park, etc play for Utd last night - understand they need their fitness back / game time but what about giving the youngster's a chance like the rest of us PL teams have ? And we have won 6 straight in Europa this season, so don't hold your breath - and I'm also willing to bet RH will play some 1st team player's in FA Cup ;-)

  • Big K - 2010-09-23 11:28

@Truered - Wat up dog. I did see Jovanovic, Agger i think and Babel on the field so i think interms of united's experience and liverpool, the ratio of lities to experience is about the same, look at Spurs and Arsenal the other night, similar situation Nasri, Keane, Chamouk, Pavlychenko. No Excuses, win is a win and loose is a loose, surprisingly Babel couldnt take a penalty, he should do better, really!! Scunthorpe played a really good game and very entertaining against united and their fans were awesome!! Another thing, dont call it a plastic trophy as your'll have the most plastic trophy's in England then and everybody wants to play in a cup final in Wembley, irrespsective of the trophy!! a lil respect!!

  • TRUE Red - 2010-09-23 12:30

'SUP Big K, true dat, we do, LOL. K, jokes aside, i agree, we should have beat them, no matter which players we played. I think RH may have been too overconfident - don't think he get's how the "small" teams play these games when playing against the "big" teams - it's their FINAL ! He must remember, he ain't at Fulham no more ... And yes, enough talent there to have won - don't believe Babel missed, but he didn't score either - he is a Holland international FFS ! Time for them, especially the benchwarmer's, to stake their claim. Didn't watch the game but willing to bet Lucas was in the middle & we lacked creativity, suprise suprise ...
