Benitez: Gerrard is wrong

Cape Town - Rafael Benitez has hit back at claims made Steven Gerrard, saying that the former Liverpool skipper is using him to sell his new autobiography.

According to espn, Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez believes Steven Gerrard is using him to increase hype around his new autobiography.

Gerrard second autobiography, "My Story," has shed light on the relationship between the pair.

Benitez told Spanish TV show Jugones that Gerrard's version of their relationship is incorrect.

"I have read the comments, and I believe [Gerrard] is wrong," Benitez said.

"But, what we must do now is just enjoy things.

"I have respect for Stevie and affection for him, for Liverpool, the club, and its fans.

"So I think it is best to let it go and not add anything else."

He is publishing a book, and now that I am Real Madrid coach, it will sell better," added Benitez.

Benitez will turn his attention to the pitch as his Madrid side take on Shakhtar in their opening Champions League Group A match on Tuesday.

Los Blancos host Shakhtar at the Santiago Bernabeu, with kick-off set for 20:45.
