Balotelli offered way out of Anfield

Cape Town - Sampdoria president, Massimo Ferrero, has offered a career lifeline to Mario Balotelli but he will have to take a pay reduction if he wants to take up the chance to return to the Serie A.

The Daily Star report that Sampdoria have declared their interest in signing the Italian international.

The British newspaper rely on Spanish sources who suggest that Liverpool are willing to make a loss on the £16 million that the Anfield club paid to sign the mercurial talent in August.

"I would take him - he’d be the real Balotelli again here." said Ferrero.

"He wouldn’t have too much pressure here in Genoa.

"He’s lost his hunger. He’s earning too much. If he was only on bread and water, he’d be a champion again."

Balotelli has failed to impress in his return to the English Premiership, scoring a single league goal in his 801 minutes on the pitch.

The former Manchester City striker has played just 25 minutes, as a substitute, since February 10 as his season has been plagued by injuries and poor form.
