Ba miss costs Chelsea

Cape Town - Ex-Chelsea forward Demba Ba's late miss against Arsenal during their Champions League qualifier comes back to cost his former club.

The Times report that Chelsea lost on additional television rights becuase of Ba's squandered chance.

Chelsea sold Ba to Besiktas for £4.6 million earlier in the summer transfer window but will reportedly lose half that amount due to the striker's miss against Arsenal.

During the Champions League qualifier Demba Ba let Arsenal off the hook when he failed to capitalise on a clear cut chance late on in the Champions League play-off. The Gunners went on to qualify for the group stages of the competition.

Chelsea stood to gain £2.3 million in extra television rights if Ba's Besiktas had eliminated Arsenal from the competition.

Chelsea are now forced to share the revenue with the fourth England side to enter the group stages of the elite European competition.
