Altidore joins Black Cats

Sunderland - United States striker Jozy Altidore is returning to the English Premier League after completing his transfer to Sunderland from AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Altidore agreed to a four-year deal to leave the Dutch league for Sunderland in northeast England.

Altidore spent the 2009-10 season at Hull while on loan from Spanish club Villarreal.

He has also played for the New York Red Bulls, Spanish team Xerez and Turkish club Bursaspor.

The New Jersey native has scored 17 times in 60 appearances for the U.S. national team.

He is set to join up with his new Sunderland teammates at their training camp in Italy.
