Alexis 'a killer in front of goals'

Cape Town - Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva says Alexis is "a nightmare" for defenders and a huge asset to Arsenal.

The Gunners bought the Chile forward from Barcelona last summer and he has already scored 19 times in his debut season.

“I’m impressed with Alexis,” Gilberto told Arsenal.com.

“He has settled really well and I am very happy to see a player like him at a club like Arsenal.

“It was important for him and the team to start his time with the club well and I really like his style. Arsène Wenger and the club are very careful when they want to sign a player, they don’t want to make a mistake.

“But I think they did the right thing with Alexis and he is paying them back with his performances. He is doing well and I hope he continues like that because he can be a guy who can help Arsenal win titles, that is what the club wants.”

Alexis is set to play against Brazil for Chile at Emirates Stadium on March 29 and Gilberto believes the forward has a lot in common with the Selecao’s talisman, Neymar.

“Alexis can be a killer in front of the goal and a nightmare for defenders but Neymar is also doing really well, he is very skilful and can make a difference with every single attack," he said.

“It is really good when you have a game where both sides have these great players that go against each other, they are very attractive and can produce the football people want to watch.”
