Adam blames social media for Sanchez issue

Cape Town - Stoke City's Charlie Adam has played down the incident with Alexis Sanchez and insists there was "nothing in it".

Images, videos and memes of Adam holding Chile star Alexis Sanchez in a headlock went viral following the Potters unlikely 3-2 win against Arsenal on Saturday.

Adam told the Stoke Sentinel: "All that happened is that I tangled with him and then we got locked together," before adding "When you come off the substitutes' bench you want to make an impact and emotions are high. But there was nothing in it and people make it worse than it was.

The Scotland international said that Sanchez had no problem with the incident and the pair shook hands after the final whistle.

Adam bemoned the negative impact of the social media.

"It's all just one of those things that happens with social media nowadays. It happens and then it goes worldwide because the Premier League goes worldwide." said Adam.
