Chiefs angry at PSL

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Doctor Khumalo on Tuesday slammed the refusal by soccer bosses to switch their Telkom Knockout match against Bidvest Wits on Friday night as "senseless", according to a Sowetan report.

The match is scheduled for Milpark Stadium just two days after six of their players return from friendly matches for Bafana Bafana against Poland in Warsaw and Kenya in Nairobi last night.

Khumalo, a former Bafana player, said that staging the Telkom last 16 clash so soon after the players' return "did no justice to the game".

The six Chiefs players who toured with Bafana are Itumeleng Khune, Eric Mathoho, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, George Lebese and Bernard Parker.

The PSL said Amakhosi had complained about the Friday fixture when the dates for the Telkom Knockout matches were announced last week.

But, according to the league, shifting the games around would have "inconvenienced everyone".

That is why a team has more than 15 players

      tshidiso.mathang - 2012-10-17 10:58

I wouldn't say it's senseless because it's within the rules of the PSl and Kenya is four hours away from RSA. Had the Psl agreed on their request it would have set a precedent that would be problematic to the league. Pirates and SS played 3 games in 7 days and never cried for time to prepare.

I thought the Zebras had depth in their team, what's the problem now? Besides 50% of the players on national duty were not used in the last game.

ok i will be more mild since news24 removed my comment\r\n\r\nso what! Who cares!

I'm not a Chiefs supporter but I can understand their frustration. What makes PSL decision even more idiotic is that, Chiefs don't play again until the following Friday and Wits on the Saturday. There is absolutely no reason why the game can't be moved to Sunday. Typical PSL incompetence.

You couldn't have said it better.

  • khathu.rasi - 2012-10-17 10:56

The good thing is that Chiefs is not refusing to release their players for national duty, they are only asking for rechedule the game as their regula players will be tired no harm Psl plz

      tshidiso.mathang - 2012-10-17 11:04

Khatu Pirates and SS played 3 important games in 7 days and there were no complaints, I agree two days is short but that's the rules that have been set long time ago.

      thobani.l.sibisi - 2012-10-17 11:58

Did Pirates and SS do any international travelling during those 7 days?

      tshidiso.mathang - 2012-10-17 13:27

Thobani u mean the four hour flight from Kenya to Rsa???

Cry babies, gone are the good old days where you use to have special treatment.

  • MrDinwiddie - 2012-10-17 12:04

Why release 6 \important\ players for national duty when u know you're gonna need them for the cup game 2 days after they return? \r\n\r\nCry babies

      kgotso.molefe.92 - 2012-10-17 13:06

Ask the national coach as to why he have to call six players from one club. These guys are regular players at their club. Coaches don't just pick players for the sake of them being there. Have you had anything about winning combination?\r\n\r\nBy the way, they were released as selected and for the National team nogal. Ya neeh.

  • collins.ntelele - 2012-10-17 12:22

You should have declined to release them .It is clear what excuse is going to be should the cry babies get smoked up on Friday.

      kgotso.molefe.92 - 2012-10-17 13:00

Surely you also have something to say should chiefs start declining the call on their players for national duties...\r\nNational duty, does that make sense to you? I doubt.
