Poch says history counts for nothing ahead of UCL final

Cape Town - Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino says previous results will count for nothing when they take on Liverpool on Saturday.

Having lost their home and away games in the Premier League and finishing 26-points behind their Champions League final opponents, Spurs are not favourites to win the biggest soccer club competition tournament when the two sides meet.

However, the Argentinian insists nothing that has gone before will matter on Saturday, which is a completely different game played in completely different circumstances.

"It is going to be a completely different game," he said. "We cannot prepare thinking about a few months ago. When you play Premier League, or Carabao Cup or FA Cup the circumstances are completely different.

"That is why our focus is completely on ourselves. It is a team we know well and they know us well. But we didn't prepare thinking of the game we played at Wembley or Anfield. It is Madrid.

"It would be a massive mistake to prepare as we played in the past."

Spurs have also been boosted by the news that Harry Kane is making good progress from his ankle injury and is fit and raring to go.

"Harry Kane in the last week, Friday and Saturday, started to be involved in the group, it's a very positive situation for him," the Spurs boss said. "We will wait and see how he is progressing in his problem."
