Ox relishing fight for Liverpool place despite slow start

Cape Town - Liverpool newcomer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists he remains motivated to break into manager Jurgen Klopp's starting XI despite struggling to adapt to the new style.

The 24-year-old made the switch to the Reds from Arsenal in the off-season but has only made one start for the Merseysiders, in the Carabao Cup, while coming off the bench seven times.

"It's a competitive team that I've come into.

"Everyone's fighting for their place and I'm just ready for when I get the opportunity.

"I need to keep developing and learning a new style of play here and get used to that and then whenever I get my opportunities try to do as well as I can."

Oxlade-Chamberlain came off the bench again for Liverpool on Wednesday and scored his first goal for the club in the 7-0 thrashing of Maribor in the UEFA Champions League.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
