Cape Town - Luke Shaw’s first start of the season earned a thumbs-up from Jose Mourinho after Manchester United topped their Champions League group.
Left-back Shaw made only his third appearance of the campaign in United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow after the £27 million man has found himself cast to the fringes this season.
There has been speculation that United could look to sell Shaw in the January transfer window, yet Mourinho was pleased with the 22-year-old’s display against Moscow, as they went through to the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners.
"Luke Shaw offensively was very good and made a great contribution for the team, said Mourinho.
"I was satisfied with his performance. Shaw had waited for a long time, it is not easy to give an opportunity to a player in matches when we need results.
"I wanted to make changes, but Luke managed 90 minutes and I told him it is a opportunity to increase his levels."
The other positive for Mourinho was only a second goal in 13 games for Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian scored the first of United’s two in as many minutes.
Mourinho added: "His work for the team is crazy. I would always pick my strikers to score the goals and it was good for him to score."
