Mangala: City will get revenge next year

Cape Town - Eliaquim Mangala has told Manchester City they can get revenge on Real Madrid by reaching next season's Champions League final.

With City captain Vincent Kompany injured for a total of 32 matches this term, Mangala has found himself alongside Nicolas Otamendi more often than he would have anticipated when the campaign kicked off.

Kompany's recent return meant that the France international was benched for Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Los Blancos in their Champions League semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, with a mere 10 minutes on the clock, Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini was forced to call on Mangala after Kompany limped off with an injury to his troublesome calf.

"We can be proud of ourselves for reaching the semi-finals," Mangala told beIN Sports after the game. "It's a good run all the same.

"We were beaten by a good team who have experience of semi-finals. When you get to the semi-finals you always want more so we'll certainly try to get our revenge next year."

The 25-year-old defender added: "I came on in a match that was very committed and important. Then we conceded a bit of a lucky goal where the ball was deflected and went in.

"After that they were able to manage the match. We tried to create some chances but it was difficult. Unfortunately we didn't score the goal that would have brought us to Milan."
