Madrid yet to hit their stride, says Zidane

Cape Town - After watching his side draw 1-1 with Tottenham in Tuesday’s Champions League clash, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane said they’re still getting into their stride.

An own goal from Raphael Varane was cancelled out from the penalty spot by Cristiano Ronaldo as the defending champions were held at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

"We aren’t happy as we were at home and we always want to win, but we had our chances," Zidane told Antena 3. "There were two great keepers and we also hit the post.

"They defended and worked well, it was a logical result. The problem is always about getting an early goal. If you do that, then great, but conceding allows them to take a step back. They know how to defend well.

"In the end we drew and we'll try to win at Wembley. We're level on seven points and we'll see how we go next time. We are growing consistently, and while we've started not the best in the league we are improving."

As for Karim Benzema, who was unable to finish a couple chances, Zidane expects improvement from the French striker who has just made his way back from injury.

"Karim looks like he always does to me, every day he's getting better," Zidane said. "He scored in Getafe (a 2-1 win) and could have scored today. Patience is the key and we're now thinking about the next game."
