Lyon revive last 16 hopes with win over Benfica

Cape Town - Lyon gave their chances of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League a boost with a vital 3-1 win over Benfica in Group G at the Groupama Stadium on Tuesday.

First-half goals by Joachim Andersen and Memphis Depay gave the hosts a healthy lead going into the break but were forced into withdrawing the Dutchman at half-time due to injury.

Substitute Haris Seferovic grabbed a goal back for Benfica in the 76th minute with the goal being awarded after a VAR review for a possible offside.

Bertrand Traore, however, restored Lyon's two-goal lead a minute from time with a low shot from inside the area.

The win sees the French outfit break their duck of having drawn their previous six home games in the competition.

Lyon move to second in Group G, with seven points from four games. Two behind RB Leipzig after the German side secured a 2-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg.
