Cape Town - Erik Lamela is feeling confident that Tottenham can hold their own against Juventus in their upcoming Champions League clash.

Spurs meet the Italian giants in the round of 16, with the first leg taking place in Turin on February 13, and the former Roma star believes the English side are ready.

"I'm optimistic," Lamela told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I think we can do it, at the end it'll be the details which decide who goes through.

"Juventus are very strong, they've played two Champions League finals in the last three years, but we're strong too.

"Six Scudetti in a row say that they have been the best team in Italy for many years, and their football is difficult, above all on a tactical level. Juve have character, experience, a great defence and champions in every position."

Last season Spurs were unable to get out of the group stages of the competition, finishing behind Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, while Juve went all the way to the final where they were beaten 4-1 by Real Madrid.
