Cape Town - Paris
Saint-Germain winger Julian Draxler was fuming after the Ligue 1 side
were eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Los Merengues took a 3-1 lead into the last-16 second-leg clash in Paris and secured their passage to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro, while Edinson Cavani netted a consolation for the hosts.
Draxler was angry after the game, due to the fact that he was left on the bench until the 76th minute. He also slammed manager Unai Emery for not being more positive in trying to chase down Real, who went through 5-2 on aggregate.
"It was insensitive," he told ZDF, when asked about leaving him on the bench for most of the tie. "I didn't know what was going on. I was surprised and angry.
"The goal for 1-1 went in but it did not change anything for us. I felt we needed to keep pressing and playing offensively.
"We lost a man, and even though we got it to 1-1 the whole stadium knew the game would not turn around because we didn't have the intensity on the pitch.
"Real Madrid played it out confidently and were not nervous at all."
