10-man Benfica beat AEK in five-goal thriller

Cape Town - Alfa Semedo scored a winning goal on his UEFA Champions League debut as 10-man Benfica overcame AEK Athens 3-2 in Group E clash.

The Portuguese outfit were in cruise control fifteen minutes into the first-half at the Athens Olympic Stadium as goals from Haris Seferovic and Alex Grimaldo gave he Reds a 2-0 lead.

However, before the half-time whistle Ruben Dias received his marching orders following a second yellow card booking.

AEK took full advantage of the situation as a Viktor Klonaridis brace looked to have secure a point for the Greek side.

Klonaridis should have completed his hat-trick but failed to get his strike beyond Odisseas Vlachodimos.

Soon after, Semedo made the host pay as he carved his way through the AEK defence before coolly putting his right foot effort into the bottom corner.

Meanwhile, in the other clash Ajax Amsterdam held Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw remain top of Group E.

Benfica move up to third place with AEK anchored at the bottom without a win.
